About Himal Hydro
Himal Hydro is a leading construction company of Nepal serving key public and private sector clients in the fields of Hydropower, Tunnelling, Transmission Line, Ropeways, Water & Wastewater and General Construction since 1978. Its major shareholders are Government of Nepal (11%), United Mission to Nepal (11%) and Nepal Jalabidyut Prabardhan Tatha Bikas Ltd. (NJPB) (78%).
A small hydropower project called Tinau Hydel with a capacity of 1 MW incorporating 2.4 km tunnels and the first underground powerhouse in Nepal was constructed during late 1960's to late 1970's. Himal Hydro was born in 1978 from the construction team that built this project.
Construction of small and medium sized projects such as Tatopani (2 MW), Andhikhola (5.1 MW), Jhimruk (12 MW) and Sunkoshi (2.6 MW), Khudi (4 MW) and various underground works of Middle Marsyangdi Hydroelectric Project (70 MW) e.g. Excavation and support of 22 m. dia. and 53.5 m. deep underground Surge Shaft, the largest underground shaft in Nepal and excavation and support of 40m2 Penstock Tunnel in landslide areas using pipe canopy method, Manakamana Cable Car Project (3 KM), the first cable car in Nepal; Drainage and Wastewater Management Project in Hetauda Industrial District and Tsho Rolpa GLOF Risk Reduction Project at an altitude of 4600 m have been completed by Himal Hydro.
Himal Hydro, in joint venture with Statkraft Anlegg (presently NCC International AS, Norway) completed construction of Khimti I Hydropower Project (60 MW) and underground works of Modi Hydroelectric Project (14 MW).
Recently Himal Hydro has been awarded the contract for the construction of Access Tunnel to powerhouse (47 m2) for the Upper Tamakoshi Hydroelectric Project (309 MW) and civil construction of Bhairabkunda Small Hydroelectric Project (3.0 MW).
Although Himal Hydro's core business area is construction, it is emerging as a developer of hydropower projects. With this aim, it has acquired licenses for few projects and carrying out detailed feasibility and design works of these projects. Himal Hydro has got its own in-house survey, design and development department to carry out these jobs.
A highly qualified and experienced team of human resource that comprises Engineers, Engineering Technicians, administrative personnel, foremen, mechanics and electricians in addition to a huge fleet of construction equipment are the main strength of the company. Emphasis is given to train its valuable human resource, to develop efficient work methodologies and to keep high ethical standards in all respects to the works.
Himal Hydro is a registered Class A Contractor, and is a member of the Contractors' Association of Nepal. It is also an affiliate member of the International Tunneling Association.
